7 Wellness Rules for a Happy You Post-Lockdown

We are living in a new surreal reality! What we deemed normal is now wishful thinking—and what we thought was reserved for post-apocalyptic scripts is now the new normal. The COVID-19 pandemic dramatically changed the trajectory of most of our lives overnight.

We found a way

But even in the midst of the crisis, most of us found a way to make the most of the lockdown imposed around the world. Some took up new hobbies, others spent more time with loved ones than ever before, or even learned new skills such as cooking. Come to think about it; the lockdown was a textbook case of “when the going gets tough, the tough get going.”

Taking Steps

Now as the lockdown measures gradually ease, a new challenge arises. How do you transition back to your old routine in a world still shaken by the effects of the virus? How do you go back to work amid the lingering fears of the pandemic? And most importantly, how do you promote your happiness, motivation, and wellness post-lockdown?

Read on for a few tips and things to do after the lockdown.

1. Embrace Mindfulness: If there’s one thing that the lockdown and the whole COVID-19 fiasco taught us is the value of observing and appreciating what’s around us. But even as life slowly reverts to BC (before Coronavirus), continue to embrace the moments of stillness, quiet, meditation, and mindfulness of the environment.

2. Prioritize Relationships: Staying connected and building stronger relationships is a key facet of wellness. Humans are inherently social beings—and hence our relationships have profound effects on our mental and emotional health. Maintain the connections you made during the lockdown and work to rekindle the relationships with colleagues or friends that were cooked up in a far corner of the country.

3. Maintain an Exercise Schedule: One of the perks of being in isolation is the opportunity to break a sweat and work some muscles. Whether or not it was spurred by boredom, embracing fitness in your life was a step in the right direction. And you should not stop after the lockdown!

4. Find Time to Enjoys the Things that Brought You Joy: What kept you going during the long days in isolation? What excited you and gave meaning to your time? Whether you rediscovered an old hobby or learned a new skill, carve out some time to continue enjoying it even as you prepare to go back to work. It’s a way to be yourself; to express your passions; to improve your mental health.

5. Grooming, Finally! Do you miss your stylist, hairdresser, barber, or make-up artist? Most of us have been bemoaning the social distancing from our favourite grooming experts. So it’s not a surprise that they should be the first people you visit during the post-lockdown period. Hack down those unruly locks, killer roots, quarantine beards, and get your skincare routine back on track.

6. Visit the Dentist: They may not be the first people on the post-lockdown list (or any list for that matter), but visiting a dentist is an important step. It’s healthy and keeps your smile bright—and that’s what wellness is all about.
7. Visit the Spa: Those gruelling hours of working from home and avoiding travel may have taken a toll of you. Consider visiting a spa after lockdown measures ease to get rid of those knots and reinvigorate your skin.

Even as we transition back and seek a semblance of normality, it’s important to remember that hygiene and social distancing precautions are still necessary. Wear a mask, wash your hands, avoid crowded places, act responsibly, and stay safe!
