Fathers...
The unsung heroes of society! A woman's motherhood is so often
celebrated and congratulated, whereas a man's fatherhood is so often
overlooked and played down. We simply have to look at maternity and
paternity leave from work to get a clear picture of this. What seems to
have been forgotten in the modern madness that we live in is the
importance of having a father in a child's life.
At a time when
single motherhood is high, and the focus is heavily on what mother's do
for their children, father's often get lost in the mix as a background
figure, so this day is very crucial to bring back attention to what your
father has done for you, even if it is simply helping to bring you into
this world.
For
the most though, the role of the father today is changing. He is no
longer a work machine who goes to work, comes home, eats and sleeps.
Fathers in today's day and age are taking a more hands on approach to
parenting, interacting with their kids more, and the number of
stay-at-home dads has also increased greatly. With greater interaction,
it becomes easier for a father to show their kids, both male and female,
how a man is supposed to behave.
Remember, you never know what you
have until it's gone. Some people's fathers may have passed away, others
may have left their life, and still others may have never been around
in the first place. If you do have your father around still, or get to
talk to or see him every now and again, do something nice for him, below
is a very short list of suggestions:
1) Phone him (if you haven't spoken in a while, simply hearing your voice may make his day)
2) Visit fragrancerich.co.uk and get him something nice (Jimmy Choo man, Givenchy play and YSL nuit de l'homme are all good for the upcoming season)
3) A beer set because... alcohol (alcohol... Tesco do very good beer sets and so do Argos)
(Told you the list was very short. I for one will probably do no.1 and no.2 - Need to rush off now though, it's father's day! Enjoy)
