Herz's 2003 fragrance study found that mood was a factor that influenced choice of perfume. Women reported that they liked a scent because it was consistent with their mood at the time; a finding that we at Fragrance Rich found to be of more significance and of interest to us however, was that particular scents do have positive effects on the mood of the wearer.
Other
studies have supported this notion, with one finding that women rated
guys who smelled good as more attractive than guys who didn't (how is
that even relevant right?)... The thing is, the women did not actually
smell the guys themselves. This is all to do with one thing -
CONFIDENCE!
35 men were divided into two groups, and female
participants were given their head-shots to rate them on attractiveness.
After rating all photos, the two groups of men were judged as equally
attractive. The women were shown short clips of the same guys
"pretending" to introduce themselves to an attractive woman. Before the
filming of the videos; one group of guys were given scented body spray,
whereas the other group received an unscented body spray. The guys
applied one of the two body sprays and wore it for two days before the
filming. When the videos were shown to the women, the guys in the
scented group were rated about 30% more attractive than the men in the
unscented group.
Scientists found, after thorough analysis, that it
was all to do with how confident the guys acted in their videos. The
group of men wearing the scented body spray felt much more confident and
this was portrayed in their body language, thus affecting their ratings
of attractiveness.
There is also large survey data which came to the conclusion that 90% of women feel more confident when wearing a fragrance than when without. So what is it that we then can conclude?
