You've made your bed?

Published by Leks on 22nd Mar 2016

Okay, by the title, it seems as if i'm about to drop the most judgmental post of 2016 right? As if i'm gonna say you've made your bed now lay in it? As if your bad situation is 100% your fault and there's nothing you can do about it? All WRONG! This post is literally, not figuratively, but literally about what I find to be one of the most important tasks of your day... Making your bed.

Many times I have woken up, rushed out of bed and got on with my activities of the day; many times I have also woken up, made my bed, and then proceeded with my days activities. What I have found upon reflecting on these opposing starts to my day is that whenever I make my bed, my day tends to be more organised, more positive, more productive, just generally better. But what is the reason for this?

I've had a number of thoughts on this. Perhaps its to do with time; when I have time to make my bed, it means i've given myself enough time to do it, and therefore I should have enough time to do everything I need to do. Then again, maybe it's because i'm starting my day in an organised manner, it translates into everything I do, my mind gets organised also, and I have a clear plan for the day. Watching a video on this issue (no I didn't search, I got an ad on facebook... Kinda weird, it's as if my internet can read my mind), I found one man sharing his wisdom. He said that by doing the simple task of making your bed every morning, you would have accomplished the first task of the day, giving you a small sense of pride that will encourage you to do another and another and another. By the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed.

This also leads on to the importance of little things. Once you acknowledge and accept the importance of making your bed every morning, you'll realise that it is key to do the little things right to get the big things right also. If by chance you do not actually have a good day going about your business, then at least you'll come home with the knowledge that you have your bed made to lay in.

So make your bed, don't lay in it, and have an amazing day!
